DID YOU KNOW that
your 700MHz wireless systems are obsolete and inoperable?
It's TRUE. When the transition to Digital TV takes place, users of 700 MHz
systems will be forced to seek other frequency bands, and that means a mandatory
replacement of many common wireless systems in use today.
Guitarworks
realizes that most folks are unaware of this situation. Many have heard
conflicting information about what will and won't occur in the 700 mHz range.
Many churches and schools have a hodge-podge of wireless systems from various
manufacturers in VHF and UHF ranges, and have little understanding of how they
work, and why interference occurs.
Last
year, the FCC reallocated the (698 MHz to 806 MHz) the "700 MHz"
frequency band. This space, previously used by most non-commercial wireless
systems, will now house public safety and commercial users. Which means
wireless users operating in the 700 MHz spectrum must vacate the premises.
That means, you have to purchase systems that operate outside the 700 MHz
bandwidth.
In
a nutshell existing 700MHz wireless systems will not function as designed
and will be illegal to operate!
Hoping
to drive the point home, companies investing in the reallocated 700 MHz spectrum
are lobbying the FCC to levy heavy fines against wireless users who trespass
into the spectrum. How the FCC will immediately react is unknown, but here's the
immediate effect on those who continue to operate in the 700 MHz band:
"What
will ultimately happen is that users may one day find that they are taking
hits and getting interference from new devices using the bandwidth. Instead
of transmitting 100 feet, they will only go about 10, and so on.
Changes are coming, and we all have to prepare." This is from Michael
Pettersen, Director of Applications Engineering for Shure Corporation, the
world's largest microphone manufacturer (as quoted in PRO SOUND NEWS,
a leading industry trade magazine).
As Karl Winkler, director of business development for Lectrosonics'
corporation pointed out, "users with low-cost, low-quality wireless will
have to replace them, and this is not a bad thing for the users. This change
in regulation will provide the impetus for them to go ahead and budget for
new, higher quality and better performing systems.
